APPLETON, Wis. — The Lawrence University women’s soccer team got three second-half goals and a superlative defensive effort to defeat Carroll University 3-0 in a Midwest Conference match on Sunday at Whiting Field West.
Lawrence goalkeeper Dani Glass made 19 saves to earn the shutout for the Vikings (3-5-0, 2-3-0 MWC).
After enduring 20 first-half shots from the Pioneers, Lawrence went on the counterattack in the second half. The Vikings grabbed the lead when Liza Girsova scored off an assist from Casey Merkle at the 51:16 mark.
The Vikings made it 2-0 on Rachel Hjortness’ first career goal at 71:44. Sarah Zaccarine picked up the assist for Lawrence. The Vikings sealed the victory when Keli Muchowski scored off an assist from Jenny Angeli at 82:42.
Erica Patterson made two saves for Carroll (5-6-0, 2-2-0), which fired 33 shots. Lawrence scored three goals on only nine shots, including five shots on goal.
