APPLETON, Wis. — The Lawrence University swim teams swept the first Midwest Conference Swimmer of the Week awards of the season.
Hayley Cardinal (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East) won the women’s award, and Evan Flack (Edina, Minn./Edina) took the men’s award.
Cardinal won two events and swam on a winning relay team as Lawrence opened its season with an impressive 143-54 dual meet victory over Beloit College on Oct. 26. Cardinal won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:10.78 and took first in the 200 individual medley in 2:24.94. She also was part of the winning 200 medley relay team, which took first in 1:56.55.
Flack won two events and swam on a winning relay team in Lawrence’s meet against Beloit. Flack won the 100-yard freestyle in 51.32 seconds and took first in the 200 freestyle in 1:56.04. Flack also swam on the winning 200 freestyle relay team, whcih posted a time of 1:33.56. Beloit edged a short-handed Vikings squad 87-77.
Lawrence is back in action on Saturday when it hosts Ripon College and UW-River Falls at Boldt Natatorium.
