FOND DU LAC, Wis. — Brian Berger and Scott Milnthorp both scored a pair of goals, and Marian University rolled to a 6-2 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association win over Lawrence University on Saturday at the Blue Line Ice Center.
The win allowed Marian (1-4-0, 1-3-0 NCHA)to split the weekend series and keep possession of the Battle of Highway 41 traveling trophy. Lawrence (1-3-0, 1-3-0) had defeated the Sabres 3-1 on Friday night.
Berger scored on the power play at the 15:41 mark of the first period to give the Sabres a 1-0 lead. Marian then pulled away with two goals in the first 4:40 of the second period. Derek Perl scored 1:21 into the second, and Milnthorp scored on the power play at 4:40.
Matt Moore got Lawrence on the board with a goal at the 5:13 mark, but Berger answered for the Sabres with a goal at 7:29 to push Marian’s lead back to 4-1.
The Sabres got third-period goals from Milnthorp and Rjay Berra to seal the win. Rudi Pino added a late goal for the Vikings.
Mike Baldwin made 20 saves to pick up the win for Marian. Anton Olsson and Peter Emery both allowed three goals for the Vikings.
