APPLETON, Wis. — St. Olaf College took the lead in the second period and pulled away in the third on its way to a 5-1 nonconference win over Lawrence University on Saturday at the Appleton Family Ice Center.
The game was part of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association/Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Thanksgiving Showdown. Gustavus Adolphus College defeated Marian University 3-2 in the other game on Saturday.
Lawrence (2-5-1) grabbed an early 1-0 lead when Logan Lemirande scored off assists from Brandon Boelter and Huck Saunders just 6:18 into the contest. St. Olaf tied it on Dan Cecka’s goal with just 1:28 left in the opening period.
The Oles (3-6-1) took the lead for good just 2:24 into the second period on Nick Marsh’s goal and then made it 3-1 when David Rath scored with 4:50 left in the period.
In an ugly third period, the Oles got goals from Geoff Gieni and Peter Lindblad to seal the victory.
Henrik Wood made 23 saves to get the win for St. Olaf. Anton Olsson stopped 35 shots for the Vikings and took the loss.
