Foresters use big second period to roll past Lawrence

APPLETON, Wis. — Lake Forest College scored six times in the second period and went on to a 7-0 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association victory over Lawrence University Friday at the Appleton Family Ice Center.

Luke Swardenski scored a pair of goals, and Mike Violette had a goal and three assists to pace the Foresters (11-8-1, 8-5-0 NCHA).

Leo Podolsky stopped 31 shots to pick up the shutout for Lake Forest. Mattias Soderqvist played the first 30 minutes and took the loss for Lawrence (5-14-1, 4-9-0).

After a scoreless first period, the Foresters took advantage of some power-play chances and raced away to a big lead. Jack Lewis and Swardenski both scored on the power play in the first 4:38 of the second period to put the Foresters up 2-0.

Violette scored at the 6:07 mark, and Andrew Stein added a power-play goal at 9:16 to make it 4-0. Lake Forest added two more goals in the next 4:35 to build a 6-0 edge.

The Foresters fired 23 shots on net in the second period and had a 51-31 edge in shots for the game.

The teams finish the weekend series Saturday night at Lake Forest.
