EVANSTON, Ill. — The Lawrence University fencing team picked up five wins at the Northwestern University Duals this weekend.
On the women’s side, Lawrence posted a 3-11 record.
The Vikings defeated Caltech 17-10 to pick up their first victory. Lawrence posted an 8-1 record against the Beavers in foil and won the epee bouts 5-4 after losing 5-4 in sabre. Lawrence defeated Cleveland State 15-12, which included a 9-0 record in the epee bouts. Cleveland State won sabre 8-1, but Lawrence took the foil bouts 5-4. Lawrence’s other victory was a 19-8 victory over Detroit Mercy. The vikings won foil 9-0 and took epee 6-3 but posted a 4-5 mark in sabre.
In the other women’s matches, Tufts defeated Lawrence 18-9, Temple defeated Lawrence 25-2, North Carolina defeated Lawrence 21-6, Farleigh Dickinson defeated Lawrence 19-8, Ohio State defeated Lawrence 25-2, Wayne State defeated Lawrence 14-13, Duke defeated Lawrence 25-2, Northwestern defeated Lawrence 24-3, Princeton defeated Lawrence 27-0, UC-San Diego defeated Lawrence 22-5 and Stanford defeated Lawrence 20-7.
The Lawrence men earned victories over Caltech and Detroit Mercy on their way to a 2-9 record. The Vikings topped Caltech 16-11 as Lawrence won sabre 7-2 and epee 6-3. Caltech took the foil bouts 6-3. In a 17-10 victory over Detroit Mercy, Lawrence won sabre 8-1 and epee 6-3, and the Titans won foil 6-3.
In the other men’s matches, Ohio State defeated Lawrence 23-4, Notre Dame defeated Lawrence 24-3, North Carolina defeated Lawrence 22-5, Duke defeated Lawrence 25-2, Northwestern defeated Lawrence 16-11, Princeton defeated Lawrence 24-3, Stanford defeated Lawrence 23-4, UC-San Diego defeated Lawrence 27-0 and Cleveland State defeated Lawrence 16-11.
