CLERMONT, Fla. — The Lawrence University softball team jumped on Colby College early on Monday and went on to an 8-4 nonconference victory over the Mules at the National Training Center.
Amanda Jaskolski went 2-for-3 with a homer and two runs batted in to pace the Vikings’ 12-hit attack. Anna Wawiorka went 3-for-4 and Katie Schumacher collected two hits and three RBIs for Lawrence (3-3). Alissa Geipel also drove in a pair of runs for the Vikings.
Kara Vance picked up the win in relief for the Vikings. She pitched the final 4.1 innings, allowing four hits and no runs.
Lawrence jumped on the Mules with three runs in the top of the first. Wawiorka started the rally with a two-out single, and Jaskolski then blasted a two-run homer. After Alex Chiodo walked, Taylor Dodson doubled to score Chiodo and Lawrence led 3-0.
The Vikings made it 5-0 with a pair of runs in the second. After Schumacher doubled and Rheya Upadhyaya singled, Geipel smashed a two-run double.
Colby then scored four times in the bottom of the third to trim the margin to 5-4, but Lawrence countered in the top of the fifth. Schumacher delivered a three-run, bases-clearing double to put the Vikings up 8-4.
Vance then retired nine of the final 10 hitters she faced to secure the victory.
