EAST PEORIA, Ill. — The Lake Forest College softball team scored in each of its final three at-bats to take a 4-2 victory over Lawrence University at the Midwest Conference Classic on Saturday.
Alex Hemmer was one of four Lake Forest players with two hits, and Hemmer drove in a pair of runs for the Foresters (18-4, 10-0 MWC). Jenny McTague went the distance, allowing six hits while striking out four, to pick up the win.
Savanna Marsicek went 2-for-3 and scored both runs for Lawrence (11-6, 2-1).
Lawrence led 1-0 in the top of the first when Marsicek singled and later scored on a double-steal attempt. The Foresters took the lead for good at 2-1 on Hemmer’s two-run single in the bottom of the fourth.
The Foresters tacked on another run in the fifth, but Lawrence countered with a run in the sixth when Marsicek singled and later scored on a passed ball. Lake Forest got that run right back in the bottom half of the inning to go up 4-2.
Lawrence brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh, but McTague got a ground out to work out of the jam.
Kara Vance went 4.2 innings, allowing six hits, and took the loss for Lawrence.
