Pair of penalty kicks lifts Edgewood past Vikings

APPLETON, Wis. — The Edgewood College women’s soccer team used a pair of penalty kicks to carve out a 2-0 nonconference win over Lawrence University on Wednesday at Whiting Field West.

Edgewood (9-3-1) broke a scoreless tie when Jenna Mineau scored on a penalty kick at 34:54 after an Eagles player was fouled in the box.

Lawrence nearly tied the match on Keli Muchowski’s shot in the 74th minute, but the ball was stopped by Tori Fortney’s diving save. Less than a minute later, the Vikings were whistled for another foul in the box, and Mineau converted another penalty kick for a 2-0 lead.

Fortney stopped seven shots for the Eagles, and Dani Glass made four saves for Lawrence (3-6-2).
