10th-ranked Falcons top Lawrence

RIVER FALLS, Wis. — The 10th-ranked UW-River Falls hockey team scored a pair of second-period goals Friday night to break a tie and went on to a 4-1 nonconference victory over Lawrence University at Hunt Arena.

The game was tied 1-1 midway through the second period when Blake Huppert scored on the power play for the Falcons (5-0-0) at 9:59. River Falls added to that lead just 3:14 later when Mike Fazio scored his second goal of the game for a 3-1 edge.

The Falcons added a power-play goal with just 26 seconds left in the game to seal the win.

Fazio gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead when he scored at the 8:16 mark of the first period. Lawrence tied it at 1-1 when Sean Reynolds scored his first goal of the season for the Vikings off a feed from Brendan Vetter at the 8:22 mark of the second period.

Mattias Soderqvist made 24 saves and took the loss for the Vikings (4-3-0). Tanner Milliron stopped 28 shots for River Falls.
