CLERMONT, Fla. — Lawrence University star shortstop Amanda Jaskolski blasted her fourth homer of the season to lead the Vikings to a 5-1 nonconference softball victory over Colby College on Thursday.
Jaskolski, the reigning Midwest Conference North Division Player of the Year, went 2-for-3 and drove in a pair of runs. Anna Wawiorka went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple, and Taylor Dodson and Marisa Thackston both went 2-for-3 for the Vikings (6-3).
Kara Vance allowed nothing after a first-inning run and went the distance to earn the victory. She allowed six hits, struck out two and walked one.
The Vikings jumped on Colby (3-5) with a pair of runs in the top of the first. Wawiorka tripled to start the game and scored on a passed ball. Savanna Marsicek followed with another triple, and she scored on an error to give Lawrence a 2-0 lead.
The Mules cut the lead in half with a run in the bottom of the first, and the score stayed that way until the fifth. Jaskolski belted a two-out solo homer in the top half of the fifth to give Lawrence a 3-1 edge.
The Vikings added another run in the sixth on Marisa Thackston’s single, and then tacked on another run in the seventh on Dodson’s run-scoring triple.
Colby only had three runners get into scoring position over the final six innings.
