CLERMONT, Fla. — The Lawrence University softball team rallied for two runs in the seventh to tie it and two more runs in the eighth to pull out a 5-4 nonconference win over D’Youville College on Monday.
Lawrence (3-3) trailed 3-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh, but singles by Savanna Marsicek and Tierney Duffy had runners at second and third with two outs. An error on Taylor Dodson’s ground ball allowed both runs to score and tie the game at 3-3.
Using the international tiebreaker rule, D’Youville’s Laura Wilkinson was placed at second to the start the eighth inning. The Vikings later cut her down at third on MacKenzie Kehlenbeck’s single. Kehlenbeck then scored on Kallie McHenry’s double and the Spartans (4-4) led 4-3.
Sam Belletini started at second for the Vikings in the bottom half of the eighth, and Kori Looker followed with a double to score her and tie the game at 4-4. After a pair of outs, Tierney Duffy legged out an infield single to score Looker and give the Vikings the win.
Marsicek, Looker and Duffy all went 2-for-4 to lead the Lawrence attack.
Kara Vance tossed 4.2 innings of relief to earn the win. She allowed one run on five hits, struck out one and did not walk a batter. McHenry went the distance, allowing 10 hits while striking out 12 and walking two, and took the loss.
