ADRIAN, Mich. — Top-ranked Adrian College pulled away early Friday and rolled to an 8-2 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association victory over Lawrence University at Arrington Arena.
The Bulldogs (16-2-1, 12-2-1 NCHA) scored four times in the first period and got two goals apiece from Trevor Boyd and Connor Armour in the game.
Lawrence (6-11-1, 5-7-1) got goals from a pair of freshmen, Josh Koepplinger and Nick Felan.
Adrian scored two goals in a span of 26 seconds in the first period to grab the lead. Armour got the Bulldogs on the board at the 11:28 mark, and Adrian went on the power play immediately with Boyd scoring on the man-advantage at 11:54 for a 2-0 edge.
Lawrence cut the lead in half on Felan’s goal at 13:27 with Brendan Vetter and Lane King picking up assists.
The Bulldogs stretched the lead to 4-1 as Cory Dunn and Taylor McCloy both scored in the final 5:35 of the period.
Koepplinger gave the Vikings some hope when he scored off assists from Vetter and King just 1:11 into the second period to trim the margin to 4-2.
Adrian struck back quickly with two goals in a span of 1:34. Boyd scored at 5:16 and Brent Sauve scored at 6:50 to push the lead to 6-2. Adrian added goals by Mat Thompson and Armour in the third period.
Tyler Parks made 31 saves to pick up the win for Adrian. Mattias Soderqvist started and made 16 saves for the Vikings before being removed in the second period. Greg Procopio stopped 18 shots in relief for the Vikings.
