Big first half leads St. Norbert past Vikings

APPLETON, Wis. — The St. Norbert College women’s basketball team jumped out to a big first-half lead Wednesday and went on to an 81-49 Midwest Conference victory over Lawrence University at Alexander Gymnasium.

The Green Knights (15-4, 14-0 MWC) led 25-13 after the first quarter and finished the second quarter with a 16-2 run to build a 51-21 lead at the half.

Mallory Nickerson and Rachel Hagge scored 14 points apiece to lead St. Norbert, and Nickerson added a game-high eight rebounds.

Liz Arco came off the bench to pace Lawrence (0-19, 0-14) with nine points, and Patsy Kealey added eight points, seven rebounds and five steals.

The Green Knights shot 51.4 percent from the floor in the first half and went 11-for-13 from the foul line on their way to building the big advantage.

Lawrence hung with league-leading St. Norbert in the second half. The Vikings trimmed the lead to 25 points near the end of the third quarter, but St. Norbert would go on to lead by as many as 36 in the fourth quarter before settling for the final margin.
