APPLETON, Wis. — The Lawrence University softball team swept the Midwest Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week awards as Meg Krautsch and Maddie MacLean were honored.

Krautsch (Oshkosh, Wis./West) was named Player of the Week, and MacLean (Arlington, Wash./Arlington) earned Pitcher of the Week honors.

Krautsch, a sophomore shortstop, powered the offense that led Lawrence to a 3-1 record in the opening part of its spring break trip to Clermont, Fla.

Krautsch hit .357 by going 5-for-14 with three doubles, a homer and a team-best six runs batted in. Krautsch, who tied for the team lead with four runs scored, hit a two-run homer to help the Vikings overcome a four-run deficit in Lawrence’s 7-6 win over SUNY-Fredonia. Krautsch also handled all 18 of her chances in the field flawlessly.

A freshman pitcher, MacLean got her college career off to a perfect start with a 2-0 record last week in Florida. In her two starts, MacLean posted a 1.40 earned run average with six strikeouts and six walks.

In her collegiate debut, MacLean went all eight innings in a 7-6 win over SUNY-Fredonia. She allowed eight hits and only three earned runs in picking up her first college victory.

MacLean followed that with a complete-game victory in a 10-2 win over UW-Platteville. She allowed six hits and no earned runs in the win over the Pioneers.

MacLean also hit .400 with a double, a homer and four runs batted in in three games.

Lawrence returns to action on Monday as it faces the University of Maine-Farmington and Kalamazoo College. The Vikings are playing 12 games in Florida during spring break before returning to Appleton.
