CLERMONT, Fla. — The Lawrence University softball team scored a run in the top of the seventh inning Friday, but it was for naught as the Vikings went on to a 1-1 nonconference tie with Greenville College.
Greenville was batting with one out and no one on in the bottom of the seventh when the game was called due to rain.
Lawrence (5-5-1) broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the seventh, and the rally started with Anna Wawiorka’s one-out single. Wawiorka stole second and scored on Meg Krautsch’s two-out single to give the Vikings the lead.
Lawrence starter Jessica Demski retired the first Greenville hitter in the bottom half of the inning when the game was halted.
The Vikings jumped on top in the top of the fifth after Demski led off with a single. Pinch-runner Marisa Thackston moved to second on a sacrifice. Thackston moved to third on a ground out and an error on that play allowed her to score.
Greenville (6-10-1) tied when Laney Thacker led off the bottom of the fifth with a homer.
Lawrence’s game with Colby College on Friday was canceled due to rain. The Vikings will now play Thomas College on Saturday morning.
