Vikings get rolling to topple MSOE in four sets

APPLETON, Wis. — The Lawrence University volleyball team started slow Saturday, but the Vikings got it rolling quickly and downed the Milwaukee School of Engineering in a nonconference match at Alexander Gymnasium.

Lawrence (5-10) won 21-25, 25-16, 25-13, 25-16.

After MSOE (1-10) took the first set, the Vikings trailed 7-6 in the second set. Lawrence then went on a 14-3 run run to take control, and Rachael Wuench’s kill capped the victory.

The Vikings jumped out to a 12-6 lead in the third set and pulled away to take a 2-1 advantage. Sydney Nelson served a pair of aces to close out the set. Lawrence built an 11-8 lead in the fourth set and then went on a 9-3 run to take control. Wuensch picked up a kill, and Bryttany Dove had a service ace to help close out the set and match.

Arianna Neumeyer paced Lawrence with 14 kills and picked up 13 digs. Nelson had 27 assists and three aces to go with 11 kills and 11 digs. Rachel Barthel added 10 kills and 16 digs for the Vikings, and Wuensch finished with seven kills. Cyra Bammer posted a team-high 17 digs for Lawrence.
