BELOIT, Wis. — The Beloit College women’s basketball team steadily pulled away and scored a 73-39 Midwest Conference victory over Lawrence University on Saturday at Flood Arena.
Shelby Kline scored 19 points to lead three Beloit player in double figures.
Freshman Shonell Benjamin led Lawrence with eight points and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.
The game was tied 7-7 early when the Bucs (3-12, 1-9) started to run away. Beloit went on an 18-2 run, capped by a pair of Tegan Rock free throws, to lead 25-9. Lawrence got baskets from Lauren Deveikis and Benjamin and a pair of free throws from Natalie Kramer to trim the lead to 28-15 at the half.
Beloit scored the first seven points of the second half to push the lead to 35-15. Lawrence chipped away at the lead and scored five consecutive points to cut the margin to 43-30 with 2:15 left in the third quarter.
The Bucs countered with an 8-1 run to build a 51-31 advantage. Lawrence didn’t get closer than 18 points after that.
The Vikings’ leading scorer, Leah Reeves, was limited to 12 minutes due to injury.
