APPLETON, Wis. — Jack Blodgett scored both goals to lead the Lawrence University men’s soccer team to a 2-0 Midwest Conference victory over Ripon College on Wednesday night at Ron Roberts Field at the Banta Bowl.
Blodgett scored once in each half as the Vikings (3-12-1, 2-6-0 MWC) controlled play throughout against the Red Hawks (6-8-1, 1-6-0). It was the first multi-goal game of Blodgett’s career.
Blodgett got the Vikings on the board in the 13th minute after Robert Desotelle’s cross was slightly deflected by Ripon goalkeeper Jimmy Amedeo. Blodgett adjusted and hammered it into the goal at the 12:09 mark.
Amedeo made several quality saves to keep Ripon within striking distance, but the Vikings then scored a beautiful goal at the 78:54 mark. Sean Salansky played the ball forward to Ryan Leonard, who crossed the ball back to the middle of the field as Blodgett ran onto it. He punched it in the back of the net for a 2-0 edge.
The Lawrence defense did the rest as it limited Ripon to just seven shots total. Lawrence goalkeeper Joe Krivit picked up the shutout by making two saves. Amedeo faced 16 shots from the Vikings and finished with four saves.
