CLERMONT, Fla. — Jessica Demski scattered six hits Saturday to toss her second career shutout as the Lawrence University softball team topped St. Lawrence University 8-0 in a nonconference game.
Demski did not allow a runner past second base en route to earning her first victory of the season.
Anna Wawiorka went 3-for-3 and scored a run to lead the Vikings (3-1), and Tierney Duffy, Katie Schumacher and Taylor Dodson all had two hits for Lawrence, and Duffy, Dodson and Meg Krautsch all drove in a pair of runs.
Lawrence led 1-0 after Dodson doubled and scored on Kori Looker’s sacrifice fly in the second, but the Vikings broke the game open in the fifth.
Schumacher started the fifth with a double, and a walk to Demski and an error loaded the bases. Duffy followed with a two-run single and the Vikings led 3-0.
After another error and a popup, Krautsch delivered a two-run single to put the Vikings up 5-0. Dodson followed with another two-run single, and Lawrence led 7-0.
The Vikings ended the game in the bottom of the sixth via the eight-run rule when Duffy singled, stole second and scored on Wawiorka’s single.
Allie Courtwright allowed seven runs over 4 1/3 innings and took the loss for the Saints (0-1).
