CLERMONT, Fla. — The Lawrence University softball team pounded out 12 hits, including a pair of homers, and routed UW-Platteville 10-2 in a nonconference game on Saturday.
Savanna Marsicek went 3-for-5 with a double and a homer, and Katie Schumacher went 2-for-4 with a double and a homer to pace Lawrence (2-1). Anna Wawiorka also had a pair of hits, including a double and drove in two runs, and Tierney Duffy collected two hits for the Vikings.
Rookie pitcher Maddie MacLean went the distance, allowed six hits, struck out four and walked four, to get the win. MacLean also drove in a pair of runs. Jordan Schmike went five innings and took the loss.
Lawrence trailed 2-0 before popping off for four runs in the top of the second. Duffy picked up a run-scoring single, and Wawiorka added a two-run double to give the Vikings a 3-2 lead. Meg Krautsch then tacked on a run-scoring double for a 4-2 edge.
The Vikings took command by scoring four more times in the fifth. MacLean had a two-run single to push the lead to 6-2, and the Vikings tacked on two more runs with the help of four Platteville errors in the inning and led 8-2.
Lawrence added single runs in the sixth and seventh on homers by Marsicek and Schumacher.
