AUBURNDALE, Fla. — The Hamilton College baseball team took a pair of games from Lawrence University in a nonconference doubleheader on Friday as the Vikings started their spring break trip.
The Continentals won the opener 9-3 and took the nightcap 17-6.
In the first game, Hamilton (5-3) scored nine runs on only eight hits as the Vikings (1-5) committed seven errors. Ryan Wolfsburg went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs for Hamilton. Andrew Haser worked 5 2/3 innings to pick up the win.
Nolan Spencer and Zach Rabideau both went 2-for-3 and Spencer scored a pair of runs for Lawrence.
The game was tied 2-2 after three innings, but Hamilton scored four runs on five hits and three errors in the fourth to take the lead for good. The Continentals added three more runs in the sixth to pull away.
In the nightcap, Hamilton collected 14 hits, and Lawrence pitchers issued 10 walks. Wolfsburg went 3-for-4 to lead Hamilton, and Haser hit a grand slam in an eight-run second inning.
Dan DePaoli pitched five innings to pick up the win, and Cullen Ellis worked one-plus inning and took the loss.
Dan Rothbauer and Travis Weber both went 2-for-4 to lead Lawrence, and Rothbauer drove in a pair of runs.
Lawrence led 3-0 after the top of the first thanks to Weber’s run-scoring triple, but the Vikings gave up four runs in the bottom of the inning and eight more in the second.
