Olsson leads Lawrence golfers on opening day of St. Norbert Invitational

WRIGHTSTOWN, Wis. — Anton Olsson shot 79 to pace the Lawrence University golf team during Saturday’s first round of the St. Norbert College Invitational at Royal St. Patrick’s Golf Links.

Olsson’s seven-over par score puts him tied for sixth and just five shots off the lead of St. Norbert’s Nic Vrubley. Rudi Pino carded an 80 for Lawrence and is tied for 10th place.

Michael Vaubel shot 86, and Tyler Clark and Fabian Sivnert both carded 89s for the Vikings.

Lawrence had a team score of 334, which places it sixth among the seven teams. St. Norbert leads the tournament at 316.

The tournament wraps up with the second round on Sunday.

Pino earns weekly conference golf award

APPLETON, Wis. — Lawrence University golf standout Rudi Pino has been named the Midwest Conference Player of the Week.

Pino (Vancouver, Wash./Camas), a freshman, won the honor after taking fourth place at the Marian University Invitational. Playing at Morningstar Golfers Club in Waukesha, Wis., Pino carded a collegiate-low round of 4-under par 68 in the opening round on Sunday. Pino followed that with a 75 on Monday for a 36-hole total of 143.

Led by Pino, Lawrence placed sixth in the team standings with a score of 623. Pino was the highest finisher among the Midwest Conference players in the field.

Lawrence returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to the Carthage College Invitational.

Pino cards 1-under total to pace Lawrence golfers at Marian Invitational

WAUKESHA, Wis. — Rudi Pino finished at 1-under par to grab fourth place for Lawrence University at the Marian University Invitational on Monday.

Pino carded an opening-round 68, which was 4-under on the par-72 layout at Morningstar Golfers Club on Sunday. He followed that with a 75 on Monday to finish with a 36-hole total of 143.

Lawrence finished sixth in the team standings with a score of 623. Carthage College won the team title at 566.

Anton Olsson tied for 16th for the Vikings after rounds of 79 and 74 for a total of 153. Rounding out the scoring for the Vikings were Michael Vaubel (T37, 85-77 162), William Thoren (44th, 82-83 165) and Tyler Clark (61st, 95-86 181).

Golf tournament moved to Waukesha

APPLETON, Wis. — The Lawrence University golf team will take place in its first tournament of the spring season, but the Marian University Invitational has been moved farther south.

The 36-hole event will take place on Sunday and Monday, but it will be played at Morningstar Golfers Club in Waukesha, Wis. Marian’s home course, Whispering Springs Golf Club, was not playable.

Pino, Olsson post top-five finishes at Wisconsin Lutheran Invitational

HARTFORD, Wis. — Rudi Pino and Anton Olsson both posted top-five finishes to lead the Lawrence University golf team at the Wisconsin Lutheran College Invitational on Monday.

Pino finished tied for third after carding a round of 76 on Monday. Pino shot an opening-round 73 on Sunday and finished with a 36-hole total of 149 on the par-72 layout at Washington County Golf Course.

Olsson tied for fifth place after carding a second consecutive round of 76 on Monday. He had a 36-hole total of 152.

Sean Esenberg of Wisconsin Lutheran won the tournament with a score of 143 with rounds of 71 and 72.

Lawrence finished sixth in the team standings with a total of 651. Carthage College won the team title with a score of 614.

Olsson takes second to pace Vikings at Benedictine

WEST CHICAGO, Ill. — Anton Olsson carded a 74 on Sunday to lead the Lawrence University golf team at the Benedictine University Invitational.

Olsson was 3-over par on the par-71 layout at St. Andrew’s Country Club. Led by Olsson, Lawrence finished with a team score of 319, which tied the Vikings for sixth place. St. Norbert College won the team title at 307.

Rudi Pino tied for 10th for the Vikings at 77, and Michael Vaubel came with tied for 31st with an 80. Tyler Clark rounded out the scoring with an 88, and William Thoren shot 90.

Pino leads Vikings to third place at Marian

FOND DU LAC, Wis. — Rudi Pino finished tied for second to lead the Lawrence University golf team to a third-place finish at the Marian Invitational on Monday.

Pino carded rounds of 74 and 80 on the par-72 layout at Whispering Springs Golf Club to finish four shots behind Marian’s Kyle Bruce, who won the title with a 36-hole total of 150.

Marian also took the team title with a score of 609. Lawrence carded team scores of 324 and 329 to finish third at 653.

Anton Olsson finished tied for seventh for the Vikings with a score of 159 after shooting rounds of 79 and 80. Michael Vaubel was tied for 11th at 160 after rounds of 81 and 79.

Rounding out the scoring for the Vikings were Tyler Clark (T48, 180) and William Thoren (55th, 191).

ROCKFORD, Ill. — Anton Olsson finished 18th to lead the Lawrence University golf team to a seventh-place finish at the Midwest Conference Championships on Saturday.

Lawrence finished with a 54-hole total of 1,041 on the par-72 layout at Aldeen Golf Club. Carroll University won the title with a score of 925.

Olsson carded his second consecutive 81 on Saturday to finish at 244. Other finishers for the Vikings were Tyler Clark (42nd, 271), William Thoren (T43, 273), Tyler Mazur (T45, 276), Derek Brickan (47th, 277) and Zach Joseph (48th, 279).

Bobby Stuebi of Knox College won the individual title with a score of six-over par score of 222.

Vikings seventh after second day of MWC Championships

ROCKFORD, Ill. — Anton Olsson carded an 81 in the second round on Friday to lead the Lawrence University golf team on the second day of the Midwest Conference Championships.

Olsson was nine-over par on the par-72 layout at Aldeen Golf Club and is in 19th place.

Lawrence is in seventh place with a team score of 695 after carding a 349 on Friday. St. Norbert College posted a team score of 304 on Friday and leads with a total of 619.
