Vikings sweep past Knox

The Lawrence University volleyball team swept Knox College 3-0 in a Midwest Conference match on Friday night at Alexander Gymnasium.

Lawrence defeated the Prairie Fire 25-21, 25-22, 25-18.

Betsy Sorensen led Lawrence’s balanced attack with 10 kills. Jenna Picha and Megan Conley added eight kills apiece for the Vikings and Terese Swords had seven.

Diane McLeod piled up a match-high 36 assists and picked up 12 digs for Lawrence (8-13, 2-4 MWC).

Kaylie Prince led Knox (2-25, 0-6) with 12 kills, and Casey Stachelski picked up 27 assists.

Vikings roll past Mount Mary in three sets

The Lawrence University volleyball team swept Mount Mary College 3-0 in a nonconference match on Tuesday night at Alexander Gymnasium.

The Vikings (7-13) won 25-10, 25-23, 25-12.

The Lawrence attack was powered by Terese Swords, Jenna Picha and Betsy Sorensen. Swords had a match-high 12 kills and hit .370. Picha and Sorensen added nine kills apiece and both hit .412 for the match.

Diane McLeod handed out 29 assists and picked up 10 digs for the Vikings. Kathleen Rowland had a team-high 14 digs for Lawrence.

Stephanie Hardwick paced Mount Mary (12-10) with nine kills and 17 digs.

Foresters top Lawrence in three sets

LAKE FOREST, Ill. — The Lake Forest College volleyball team downed Lawrence University in straight sets on Saturday in a Midwest Conference match.

Lake Forest (14-8, 4-2 MWC) won 25-18, 25-19, 25-15.

Molly McCloskey picked up 11 kills to pace Lake Forest, which hit .203 as a team.

Terese Swords and Megan Conley, a pair of freshmen, had seven kills apiece to lead the Vikings (6-13, 1-4). Diane McLeod led the Vikings with 21 assists and Kathleen Rowland had a team-high 15 digs.

Vikings sweep past Bucs; McLeod tops 2,000 assists

BELOIT, Wis. — The Lawrence University volleyball team swept Beloit College in three sets in a Midwest Conference match Friday night at Flood Arena.

Lawrence (6-12, 1-3 MWC) defeated Beloit (2-18, 0-5) 25-13, 25-17, 25-22.

Terese Swords, Jenna Picha and Megan Conley powered the Vikings to the victory. Swords had a match-high 13 kills and a .462 hitting percentage for the match. Picha added 10 kills on a .643 hitting percentage, and Conley added eight kills and hit .462 for the night. The Vikings hit .313 as a team.

Lawrence junior setter Diane McLeod had 37 assists in the match and now has 2,007 for her career. McLeod ranks second on Lawrence’s career list and trails only Georgia Seals, who has 3,100.

Kathleen Rowland picked up 14 digs to pace Lawrence, and Betsy Sorensen added three blocks.

Ripon tops Vikings in four sets

The Ripon College volleyball team rallied late in the final two sets and pulled out a 3-1 Midwest Conference victory over Lawrence University on Tuesday night at Alexander Gymnasium.

Ripon (8-15, 2-2 MWC) defeated the Vikings (5-12, 0-3) 25-22, 22-25, 25-23, 25-23.

Lisa Aguilar led Ripon with 14 kills, and Karlye Wehner added 13. Kirbi Dunlavy picked up 41 assists and Brianne Milroy had 29 digs.

Betsy Sorensen led Lawrence with 14 kills and had a .571 hitting percentage for the match. Megan Conley added 11 kills for the Vikings. Diane McLeod had a match-high 44 assists for Lawrence, and Kathleen Rowland picked up 35 digs.

After the teams split the first two sets, Lawrence built a 14-7 lead in the third set. Ripon stormed back to cut the lead to 15-14, and the teams traded points until Ripon took a 22-20 lead. The Red Hawks closed out the sets by trading points with the Vikings.

The fourth set was tied 20-20, but Ripon outscored the Vikings 5-3 down the stretch to close out the match.

Vikings fall to Illinois College in four sets

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. — The Lawrence University volleyball team won the first set Friday night, but Illinois College rallied for a 3-1 Midwest Conference victory at Sherman Gymnasium.

Lawrence won the opening set 25-21, but Illinois College came back to win the next three sets 25-19, 25-11, 25-20.

Missy Norville paced Illinois College with 12 kills, and Megan Moore added 10.

Shannon McLain led Lawrence with 11 kills. Diane McLeod picked up 31 assists, and Kathleen Rowland had 33 digs for the Vikings.

Pioneers top Lawrence in four sets

The Carroll University volleyball team took the first two sets and went on to a 3-1 Midwest Conference victory over Lawrence University on Wednesday at Alexander Gymnasium.

Carroll (8-10, 1-0 MWC) got 14 kills apiece from Kelly Sloyan and Katrina Zenz.

Shannon McLain led Lawrence (5-10, 0-1) with 15 kills, and Emma Kane added seven kills and 15 digs.

Kathleen Rowland picked up a match-high 29 digs for the Vikings, and Diane McLeod had 33 assists and 14 digs.

Vikings fall to Edgewood, Cardinal Stritch

MADISON, Wis. — The Lawrence University volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday at the Edgewood College Triangular.

Cardinal Stritch University defeated the Vikings (5-9) 25-18, 25-20, 25-14, and Edgewood beat Lawrence 25-21, 25-19, 25-12.

In the match against Cardinal Stritch, Lawrence struggled to a .056 hitting percentage. Shannon McLain paced Lawrence with six kills and Bethany Larsen had four. Diane McLeod picked up 16 assists, and Kathleen Rowland had 17 digs.

Against Edgewood, the Vikings hit only .093, and McLain picked up a team-high nine kills. Kayla Storm added seven kills and Larsen had five. McLeod hada  team-high 22 assists, and Storm paced the squad with 13 digs.

Marian tops Vikings in three sets

FOND DU LAC, Wis. — The Marian University volleyball team stopped Lawrence University 3-0 in a nonconference match on Wednesday at Sadoff Gymnasium.

The Sabres (8-5) won 25-23, 25-11, 25-19.

Shannon McLain, Betsy Sorensen and Emma Kane led Lawrence with five kills apiece. Diane McLeod had 26 assists, and Kathleen Rowland picked up 13 digs for the Vikings (5-7).

Vikings drop pair at UW-Oshkosh Classic

OSHKOSH, Wis. — The Lawrence University volleyball team dropped a pair of nonconference matches on Saturday at the UW-Oshkosh Pizza Hut Classic.

UW-La Crosse defeated Lawrence (5-6) 25-17, 20-25, 25-19, 25-16, and Martin Luther College topped Lawrence 24-26, 25-16, 25-18, 25-16.

Setter Diane McLeod was named to the all-tournament team for Lawrence.

Against La Crosse, Megan Conley paced Lawrence with eight kills and Betsy Sorensen added seven. McLeod had 32 assists, seven digs and three blocks. Kathleen Rowland paced Lawrence with 21 digs.

In the match against Martin Luther, Shannon McLain paced the Vikings with 12 kills and Sorensen added nine kills and four blocks. McLeod picked up 31 assists, three kills, three aces and six digs.
