Jason’s big day leads Carthage past Lawrence

Rachel Jason scored two goals and added three assists as the Carthage College women’s soccer team defeated Lawrence University 5-1 in a nonconference game on Sunday at Whiting Field West.

Carthage (3-4-2) led 2-0 after Jason scored a the 29:37 mark, but Lawrence’s Kirstin Edwards cut the lead in half with an unassisted goal at the 31:31 mark.

The Lady Reds then added goals at 35:59 and another at 40:31 to lead 4-1 at the half.

Jason finished the scoring with her second goal of the day at the 48:54 mark.

Abby Alm played the first half, made one save and picked up the win for Carthage. Cassie Burke played the first half and took the loss for the Vikings (3-6-0).

Foresters jump on Lawrence early and pull away

The Lake Forest College women’s soccer team scored three goals in the first 19 minutes and went on to a 5-1 Midwest Conference victory over Lawrence University on Saturday at Whiting Field West.

Michelle Greenway had a hat trick for Lake Forest (5-4-0, 3-0-0 MWC) and scored the first two goals of the match for the Foresters.

Lake Forest led 3-0 when Sarah Tiano blasted home a rebound of her own shot to cut the lead to 3-1 with five minutes left in the opening half. The Foresters then scored just 50 seconds into the second half and added another goal in the 69th minute.

Cassie Burke made 16 saves for the Vikings, and Bri Schleibinger stopped two shots for Lake Forest.

Burke, Muchowski sweep MWC Player of the Week honors

The Lawrence University women’s soccer team swept the Midwest Conference Player of the Week awards on Monday.

Senior goalkeeper Cassie Burke (Golden Valley, Minn./Hopkins) was named the Defensive Player of the Week and sophomore forward Keli Muchowski (Neenah, Wis./Neenah) was selected as the Offensive Player of the Week.

Burke had 160 shutout minutes as Lawrence went 2-0 on the week. Burke recorded 10 saves in a 3-0 victory over Illinois College on Sept. 15. She also picked up an assist on Muchowski’s goal in the 15th minute. Burke also played the first 70 minutes, made one save and didn’t allow a goal in Lawrence’s 4-1 victory over Knox College on Sept. 16.

For the week, Burke was 2-0 with a 0.00 goals against average and 1.000 save percentage. On the season, Burke has a 1.33 goals against average and .868 save percentage.

Muchowski scored three goals and picked up an assist in Lawrence’s two games last week. In the 3-0 victory over Illinois College, Muchowski scored a pair of goals. She scored in the 15th minute to give Lawrence a 2-0 lead and sealed the victory with a goal in the 75th minute.

In the 4-1 victory over Knox, Muchowski scored in the 19th minute to put the Vikings up 1-0 and then assisted on Anne Leung’s goal in the 55th minute.

On the season, Muchowski leads the team with four goals and nine points.

Lawrence is now 3-4-0 on the season (2-0-0 in Midwest Conference play) and returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Lake Forest College.

Lawrence uses big second half to run past Prairie Fire

Three Lawrence University women’s soccer players had a goal and an assist as the Vikings defeated Knox College 4-1 in a Midwest Conference game on Sunday at Whiting Field West.

Keli Muchowski, Anne Leung and Liza Girsova all had a goal and an assist for Lawrence (3-4-0, 2-0-0 MWC). Jennifer Angeli also scored for the Vikings.

Muchowski gave Lawrence a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute and the score stayed that way until the half. The Vikings scored early and often in the second half to put the game away.

Angeli gave Lawrence a 2-0 lead at 49:53 when she scored off a pass from Amanda Ollerer. Lawrence made it 3-0 at 54:20 when Leung scored her first career goal off assists from Girsova and Muchowski.

The Vikings then made it 4-0 on Girsova’s first career goal at 63:56.

Cassie Burke played the first 70 minutes and made one save to pick up the victory. Rachael Koene made 13 saves and took the loss for Knox (0-5-0, 0-2-0).

Lawrence shuts out Lady Blues

The Lawrence University women’s soccer team scored a pair of early goals and went on to a 3-0 Midwest Conference victory over Illinois College on Saturday at Whiting Field West.

Lawrence goalkeeper Cassie Burke made 10 saves to earn the shutout, and Keli Muchowski scored twice for the Vikings.

The Vikings (2-4-0, 1-0-0 MWC) jumped to a 1-0 lead when Kirsten Edwards scored at the 7:17 mark off assists from Anne Leung and Caroline Borst.

Muchowski made it 2-0 when she scored at the 14:30 mark. Muchowski punched in a shot after Liza Girsova’s ball hit the post. Burke, Lawrence’s goalkeeper, also picked up an assist on the play.

Muchowski then sealed the victory with a goal at 74:23, with Girsova and Anita Babbitt recording assists.

Lawrence outshot the Lady Blues (3-4-0, 0-1-0) 23-14.

Lawrence earns victory at St. Mary’s

WINONA, Minn. — Freshman Kirsten Edwards got her first career goal, and it proved to be the game-winner in a 2-1 nonconference victory at St. Mary’s (Minn.) University on Sunday.

Edwards scored off a pass from Sarah Tiano and beat goalkeeper Miranda Halling at 65:17 to give Lawrence a 2-1 lead. Lawrence (1-4-0) made that lead stand up behind four saves from goalkeeper Cassie Burke.

Lawrence grabbed a 1-0 lead at 12:25 when Keli Muchowski scored unassisted. St. Mary’s (0-4-0) tied the game at 1-1 with a goal at 62:39.

Late goal lifts UW-La Crosse over Lawrence

LA CROSSE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women’s soccer team scored with three minutes remaining Saturday to pull out a 1-0 nonconference win over Lawrence University.

Kara Bednarek scored at the 87-minute mark to break the scoreless tie for the Eagles (2-2). La Crosse enjoyed a 27-4 edge in shots, but Lawrence goalkeeper Cassie Burke made nine saves to keep the Vikings (0-4) in the contest.

Sagan Pizzingrilli made one save to pick up the shutout for La Crosse.

Burke spectacular in net in loss to Dubuque

The University of Dubuque women’s soccer team posted a 2-0 nonconference victory over Lawrence University on Tuesday at Whiting Field West, but goalkeeper Cassie Burke kept the Vikings close with her spectacular play throughout the game.

Burke made 15 saves, including a half-dozen of the jaw-dropping variety, to keep Dubuque from putting the game away. The Spartans (1-0-1) scored in the 37th minute to grab a 1-0 lead, but Burke withstood a barrage of 24 second-half shots and only allowed a goal to Alexandra Watkins in the 73rd minute.

Lawrence (0-3-0) was limited to only four shots. Chelsea Hawkins made three saves to pick up the shutout.

Dominican shuts out Lawrence

RIVER FOREST, Ill. — The Dominican University women’s soccer team posted a 2-0 nonconference shutout against Lawrence University on Friday.

The Stars (1-0-0) scored late in the first half and added another goal late in the game to pick up the victory.

Autumn Koomler scored at the 40:17 mark, and Kelly Petty added a second goal at the 84:07 mark.

Dominican held a 19-10 advantage in shots over the Vikings (0-1-0).
