St. Norbert hangs on for 1-0 win over Vikings

The St. Norbert College women’s soccer team survived some second-half pressure and hung on for a 1-0 Midwest Conference victory over Lawrence University on Sunday at Whiting Field West.

St. Norbert (12-3-3, 7-1-2 MWC) got the game’s only goal on Zoe Kurth’s header in the 35th minute off a corner kick from Jaci Kulow.

Lawrence senior goalkeeper Cassie Burke kept the Vikings (4-13-0, 3-7-0) within striking distance with some stellar play in the net. Burke finished with 10 saves in her final collegiate contest.

Lawrence put the pressure on late, and St. Norbert goalkeeper Sarah Platzer was forced to make a save on Sarah Tiano’s shot with four minutes left. Platzer finished with four saves. The Vikings had the ball inside the St. Norbert penalty box when time expired.

Vikings shut down Beloit

The Lawrence University women’s soccer team got goals from three different players and rolled to a 3-0 Midwest Conference victory over Beloit College on Saturday at Whiting Field West.

Freshman Genna Matt assisted on all three Lawrence goals.

Caroline Borst put Lawrence (4-12-0, 3-6-0 MWC) on the board when she scored off a pass from Matt at the 26:49 mark.

Lawrence took that lead into the break, but quickly made it 2-0 early in the second half when Amanda Ollerer scored at 50:57.

The Vikings then sealed the victory with Patsy Kealey’s first collegiate goal at the 68:11 mark.

Cassie Burke made eight saves to pick up the shutout for Lawrence. Willow Macy stopped seven shots for Beloit (7-9-1, 3-7-0).

Cornell edges Vikings 1-0

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa — The Cornell College women’s soccer team got a goal in the 18th minute and held on for a 1-0 Midwest Conference win over Lawrence University on Sunday.

Deidre Franzen scored the game’s only goal at the 17:47 mark to lift Cornell (3-12-1, 2-6-1 MWC) to the victory. The Rams held a 15-9 edge in shots over the Vikings (3-12-0, 2-6-0 MWC).

Grinnell shuts out Lawrence

GRINNELL, Iowa — The Grinnell College women’s soccer team put together a 5-0 Midwest Conference victory over Lawrence University on Saturday at Springer Field.

The Pioneers (6-6-1, 6-1-0 MWC) built a 2-0 lead at the half and then sealed the win with two more goals in the first thirty minutes of the second half.

Grinnell limited Lawrence (3-11-0, 2-5-0) to only one shot.

Sunday’s soccer matches vs. Edgewood postponed

The Lawrence University men’s and women’s soccer matches vs. Edgewood College that were scheduled for Sunday have been postponed.

Heavy rain in the Appleton area all day Saturday and again on Sunday morning have the field saturated.

No make-up dates for the matches have been set.

The Vikings return to action on Tuesday when the men travel to UW-Oshkosh for a nonconference match.

Ripon shuts out Vikings 2-0

RIPON, Wis. — The Ripon College women’s soccer team scored twice in the first half and went on to a 2-0 Midwest Conference victory over Lawrence University on Wednesday.

Brandi Peltier scored in the 23rd minute and Kali Doerr added another goal in the 43rd minute for Ripon (7-5-0, 3-4-0 MWC). Ripon posted a 13-3 edge in shots over the Vikings (3-10-0, 2-4-0).

North Central takes down Vikings

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — The Lawrence University women’s soccer team scored first, but North Central College roared back and posted a 4-1 nonconference victory over the Vikings on Sunday.

Lawrence (3-9-0) got on the board first when Kirstin Edwards scored off an assist from Keli Muchowski at the 11:50 mark.

North Central (5-6-1) got goals from Katrina McNeela at 18:50 and 43:57 to take a 2-1 lead into the half. North Central added a pair of second-half goals to pull away.

Gordon, Kellen score twice to pace Scots in shutout victory

MONMOUTH, Ill. — Danielle Gordon and Lauren Kellen both scored a pair of goals to lead the Monmouth College women’s soccer team to a 6-0 Midwest Conference victory over Lawrence University on Saturday.

The Scots (4-6-3, 2-2-1 MWC) scored three goals in the first 27 minutes and then added three more goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half.

Gordon scored in the 13th minute and again in the 56th minute, and Kellen had goals in the 27th minute and in the 61st minute.

Monmouth limited the Vikings to only four shots.

Carroll shuts out Vikings

WAUKESHA, Wis. — The Carroll University women’s soccer team scored three times in the first 24 minutes and went on to a 4-0 Midwest Conference victory over Lawrence University on Sunday at Schneider Stadium.

Carroll (6-2-1, 3-1-0 MWC) got goals at 17:23, 18:54 and 23:38 to take command. The Pioneers limited Lawrence (3-7-0, 2-2-0) to only two shots.
