Vikings fall to MSOE

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Milwaukee School of Engineering women’s soccer team jumped out to a 2-0 lead and then added a late goal to seal a 3-1 nonconference victory over Lawrence University on Wednesday night.

MSOE got goals in the 52nd and 57th minute to lead 2-0. Mallory Koula scored her 11th goal of the season in the 77th minute to trim the margin to 2-1. MSOE then added a goal with 1:44 remaining in regulation to secure the victory.

Lawrence (6-8-1) outshot the Raiders (11-6-2) 24-14.

Lawrence shuts out Lady Blues

Mallory Koula scored a pair of goals to lead the Lawrence University women’s soccer team to a 2-0 Midwest Conference victory over Illinois College on Sunday.

Koula got Lawrence on the board with a goal at the 17:26 mark. Koula added a second goal at 67:26 to complete the scoring. Annie Kaiser assisted on both goals for the Vikings.

Cassie Burke made two saves to record the shutout.

Lawrence enjoyed a 24-5 edge in shots.

Lawrence, Monmouth battle to overtime tie

The Lawrence University women’s soccer team scored early but had to settle for a 1-1 double-overtime tie with Monmouth College on Saturday in a Midwest Conference game.

CJ Kirk for the Vikings in the fifth minute, but Monmouth’s Becca Baur countered for the Scots at the 20:31 mark of the first half. That was it for the scoring.

Cassie Burke made four saves for the Vikings, and Samantha Barranco made six saves for the Scots. Lawrence outshot Monmouth 16-11.

Burke named MWC Defensive Player of the Week

Lawrence University women’s soccer standout Cassie Burke has been named the Midwest Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

Burke (Golden Valley, Minn./Hopkins), a sophomore goalkeeper, earned the award after allowing only one goal in a pair of Midwest Conference road victories this past weekend.

Burke, who was chosen as a conference player of the week for the first time in her career, made three saves in Lawrence’s 3-0 victory at Knox College last Saturday. It was Burke’s third shutout of the season. Burke then made four saves in a 3-1 victory at Grinnell College on Sunday.

Burke posted an .875 save percentage and 0.50 goals against average for the two contests. She improved to 5-3-0 on the season and improved her save percentage to .762 and her goals against average to 1.25.

Lawrence, tied for first place in the MWC with 12 points, returns to action on Sunday when it travels to Carroll University.

Second-half goals by Koula, Ehlinger lift Lawrence past Grinnell

GRINNELL, Iowa — The Lawrence University women’s soccer team got a pair of second-half goals and posted a 3-1 Midwest Conference victory Sunday at Grinnell College.

Mallory Koula broke a 1-1 tie with her unassisted goal in the 66th minute. Sarah Ehlinger then sealed the victory for Lawrence with her second goal of the match five minutes later.

Cassie Burke made four saves to pick up the win for the Vikings.

Lawrence soccer teams sweep Knox

GALESBURG, Ill. — The Lawrence University soccer teams swept a Midwest Conference doubleheader Saturday at Knox College.

The Lawrence women downed the Prairie Fire 3-0 and the Viking men posted a 4-1 victory over Knox.

Lawrence’s women improved to 3-1 in the Midwest Conference and 4-6 overall. Mallory Koula scored twice for the Vikings, and Cassie Burke made three saves to record the shutout.

The Lawrence men remain unbeaten in the league at 3-0 and are 6-3-1 overall. The Vikings got the game-winning goal and two assists from Jared Padway, and Steven Solomon recorded three saves to pick up the win.

UW-Stout edges Lawrence

MENOMONIE, Wis. – Grace Salwasser’s goal just before the half proved to be the game-winner as the University of Wisconsin-Stout women’s soccer team defeated Lawrence University 3-1 in a nonconference match on Saturday.

Lawrence’s Sarah Ehlinger had tied the match at 1-1 in the 17th minute, but Salwasser scored with just 43 seconds left in the first half to give the Blue Devils the lead for good. Stout added a goal in the 62nd minute to seal the win.
