GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Lawrence University men’s cross country team won the title at the St. Norbert College Tom Barry Invitational on Saturday, and freshman Curran Carlile was the top collegiate finisher in his first race for the Vikings.
Carlile, a freshman from Portland, Ore., covered the four-mile course at Colburn Park in 20 minutes, 50.1 seconds. Lawrence sophomore Sam Stevens, a Suamico, Wis., native running in his backyard, finished right behind Carlile at 20:55.1 to complete a 1-2 sweep for the Vikings.
Lawrence tied for the team title with 66 points with St. Norbert and Ripon College. It was the first men’s invitational team title since the Vikings won the Northland Baptist Bible College Invitational in 2001. That meet also marked the last time a Lawrence men’s runner won a race as well.
On the women’s side, junior Emily Muhs paced the Vikings by taking fifth place in 19:25.2 on the 5,000-meter course. Led by Muhs, the Vikings placed seventh in the team standings.
