The St. Norbert College hockey team turned in a superb defensive performance and posted a 5-0 nonconference victory Saturday night over Lawrence University at the Appleton Family Ice Center.
The game was part of the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association/Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Thanksgiving Showdown. In the early game on Saturday, the College of St. Scholastica posted a 6-5 overtime victory over Marian University.
St. Norbert (10-1-0) limited the Vikings (6-2-0) to 31 shots and B.J. O’Brien picked up the shutout for the Green Knights. He made several outstanding saves to preserve the shutout.
Evan Johnson stopped 41 shots for Lawrence and took the loss.
St. Norbert got on the board with Seth Soley’s goal at 6:55 of the the first period. The Green Knights kept that 1-0 lead until midway through the second period when Cody Keefer scored on the power play.
St. Norbert then broke the game open with a pair of goals in the final three minutes of the second period. Kyle Stroh scored at 17:13 and Zach McDonald added a goal at 19:29 to give the Green Knights a 4-0 lead after two periods.
Scott Pulak added the final tally with just 43 seconds left in the game.
Lawrence returns to action on Dec. 3 when it hosts Marian.
