The Lake Forest College women’s basketball team jumped out to a huge early lead and went on to a 76-36 Midwest Conference victory over Lawrence University on Saturday at Alexander Gymnasium.
Emily Weber and Alex Messacar scored 10 points apiece to pace Lake Forest (3-2, 1-1 MWC), which had 14 different players score. Freshman Alex Deshler continued her strong play for Lawrence (0-4, 0-2) and finished with a game-high 15 points. Kanesha Walker pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds for the Vikings.
Down to only seven healthy players due to injuries, Lawrence had a tough time keeping up with the Foresters. Deshler hit a 3-pointer early to give Lawrence its only lead of the game at 3-2, and Lake Forest then rattled off the next 20 points.
A pair of free throws from Katie Van Es with 6:31 left in the first half finally broke the scoreless streak for Lawrence. Lawrence was held to 10 first-half points and Lake Forest led 43-10 at the break.
Lake Forest would go on to lead by as many as 45 points in the second half.
