The Marian University hockey team broke the game open late in the first period and went on a 10-2 Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association victory over Lawrence University Friday night at the Appleton Family Ice Center.
The Sabres (6-5-0, 4-3-0 MCHA) scored three times in a span of 3:28 in the first period to break a 1-1 tie. The Sabres strung together eight unanswered goals before the Vikigns scored midway through the third period.
Brendan Hull and Justin Cormier scored two goals apiece for the Sabres, who were 3-for-6 on the power play.
Jameson Raymond and William Thoren both scored for the Vikings (6-3-0, 4-1-0), who lost for the first time in league play. Both of Lawrence’s goals came on the power play, and the Vikings finished 2-for-7 on the man-advantage.
The game was marred by 33 penalties and two game disqualifications.
