Vikings sweep pair of matches at Virginia Wesleyan Invitational

NORFOLK, Va. — The Lawrence University volleyball team swept a pair of matches on Saturday at the Virginia Wesleyan College Invitational.

The Vikings beat Marymount University (1-2) 25-17, 25-21, 26-28, 25-23 in the opening match of the day. Betsy Sorensen led a balanced attack with seven kills, and Shannon McLain added six. Diane McLeod piled up 28 assists, and Kathleen Rowland added 31 digs. Emma Kane chipped in with 16 digs, and Kate Rosenbalm had a pair of aces.

Lawrence (3-1) then topped Mount Aloysius College 25-21, 25-9, 25-9 to wrap up the tournament. McLeod picked up 19 assists and added five kills, 12 digs and three aces. Andrea Wilkinson had a team-high six kills for the Vikings. Rowland led the Vikings with 19 digs and Kane added seven. Rosenbalm picked up a team-high four aces and Sorensen added three.

The Vikings return to action on Thursday when they host MSOE in the home opener.
