APPLETON, Wis. — Joseph Brown scored a pair of first-half goals and the Grinnell College men’s soccer team held on for a 2-1 Midwest Conference victory over Lawrence University on Saturday at Whiting Field West.
Brown scored off a pass from Victor Ghazal at the 21:13 mark to give the Pioneers (7-9-0, 5-3-0 MWC) a 1-0 lead. Brown made it 2-0 when he beat Lawrence goalkeeper Joe Krivit to a pass from Michael Hurley and scored at 29:26.
Erich Lohrmann cut the lead to 2-1 when he scored for Lawrence (6-9-1, 4-4-0) at 41:12. Michael Deremo fed Cooper Sinai-Yunker, who moved the ball to Lohrmann. He beat Grinnell goalkeeper Major May for his first goal of the season.
May made three saves to pick up the win, and Krivit stopped two shots for the Vikings. Lawrence had a 14-10 edge in shots.
