GRINNELL, Iowa — Hayley Cardinal won the title in the 100-yard breaststroke on Saturday to lead the Lawrence University swim teams at the Midwest Conference Championships.
Cardinal swam to victory in the event in a time of 1:07.09 as she edged Lake Forest College’s Lauren Dalecky, who was second in 1:07.33.
Hannah Gabriel and Taylor Winter were the other top finishers for the Lawrence women as they took third and fourth, respectively, in the 200 freestyle. Gabriel was third in 1:57.20 and Winter was fourth in 1:57.46.
The women’s 800 freestyle relay team of Paige Witter, Emily Flack, Winter and Gabriel grabbed second in 7:56.61.
The Lawrence women are tied for third place with Carroll University with 289 points.
On the men’s side, the top finisher was the 200 medley relay team of Josh Ladwig, Stephen Salansky, Evan Flack and Charlie Mann. They took sixth in 1:40.99. The top individual finisher on the day was Mann, who grabbed eighth in the 100 backstroke in 55.05 seconds.
The Lawrence men are in sixth place in the team standings with 159 points.
