Vikings roll to 12-4 rout of Thomas

CLERMONT, Fla. — The Lawrence University softball team scored multiple runs in four consecutive innings and rolled to a 12-4 nonconference win over Thomas (Maine) College on Friday.

The Vikings pounded out 11 hits and nine different players had a hit for Lawrence (6-5). Kara Vance went the distance for Lawrence to pick up the win. She allowed seven hits, struck out four and walked three.

Amanda Jaskolski went 2-for-4 with a homer and two runs batted in for Lawrence. Mary Diduch went 2-for-2 with a triple and three RBIs.

Lawrence broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the top of the third. Alissa Geipel and Anna Wawiorka both scored after an error on Wawiorka’s ground ball for a 2-0 lead. After Jaskolski singled, Alex Chiodo doubled to score Jaskolski for a 3-0 edge.

Thomas (2-5) got a run back in the bottom half of the inning, but the Vikings added two more runs in the fourth. Tierney Duffy started the inning with a bunt single and then scored on an error. The Vikings then loaded the bases on another error and a hit batsman. Wawiorka then scored on a wild pitch for a 5-1 lead.

Lawrence added two more runs in the fifth for a 7-1 edge. Diduch tripled to score Cory Paquette and then scored on Savanna Marsicek’s sacrifice fly.

The Terriers got three runs in the bottom of the fifth to trim the margin to 7-4, but Lawrence sealed the victory with five runs in the sixth. Jaskolski blasted a two-run homer in the inning, Katie Schumacher had a run-scoring double and Diduch added a two-run single.
