GRINNELL, Iowa — Cam Davies and Sofie Yang both grabbed third-place finishes to pace the Lawrence University track teams on Friday’s opening day of the Midwest Conference Championships at Grinnell College.
Davies raced to third place in the 1,500 meters in a time of 4:02.69. Teammate Dan Thoresen was seventh in the event in 4:09.49.
The Lawrence men are seventh in the team standings with 19 points, and Monmouth College leads with 68.40.
Yang grabbed third in the pole vault with a height of 10 feet, 0.5 inches. Yang was the only Lawrence woman to score points on Friday so the Vikings are in ninth place in the team standings with six points. Monmouth leads with 68 points.
Lawrence also had two placewinners in the hammer throw. Senior Andy Paider grabbed sixth place with a toss of 144-2, and junior Spencer Swick was eighth at 142-8.
Also placing for the Vikings were Jamie Brisbois, who took fourth in the 10,000 meters in 33:10.40, and Wes Hetcher, who was seventh in the pole vault at 11-7.
The championships wrap up on Saturday.
