GRINNELL, Iowa — Lawrence University track and field standout JP Ranumas narrowly missed a title on Saturday at the Midwest Conference Championships at Grinnell College.
Ranumas finished second in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.59 seconds, just .23 seconds behind first-place finisher John Piper of Illinois College.
Ranumas helped Lawrence to a seventh-place finish in the team standings with 37 points. Monmouth College won the title with 209.67 points.
Cam Davies grabbed fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:57.91, and Jamie Brisbois was sixth in the 5,000 in 16:21.97. James Holden grabbed sixth in the javelin with a throw of 155 feet, 8 inches.
On the women’s side, Lawrence finished ninth with 28 points. Monmouth won the title with 213.
The top finisher on Saturday for the women was Clare Bruning, who grabbed fourth in the 5,000 in 19:10.61. Katherine Dannecker took fifth in the steeplechase in 12:09.43, and the 400 relay team was fifth in 51.50 seconds.
Also placing for the women were: Genna Matt (sixth, hammer throw, 135-5), Sofie Yang (seventh, 100 hurdles, 17.45, and eighth, 400 hurdles, 1:11.84) and Anna Bolgrien (eighth, 400 hurdles, 1:10.23).
