DE PERE, Wis. — The St. Norbert College baseball team swept a Midwest Conference doubleheader from Lawrence University on Sunday at Van Alstine Field.
St. Norbert took the opener 12-7 and won the nightcap 7-2.
In the opening game, St. Norbert pulled out to a 5-1 lead and then withstood a Lawrence rally.
Jake Gordon went 3-for-5 with a homer, and Matthew Holliday went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles for the Vikings (7-14, 1-7 MWC).
The Green Knights led 5-1 after two innings and were up 10-2 before Lawrence rallied in the sixth. The Vikings had seven hits in the inning, including run-scoring hits by Joel Birch, Travis Weber and Anthony Ortiz, to trim the lead to 10-7.
St. Norbert responded by scoring twice in the bottom half of the inning to seal the win.
In the nightcap, Brendan Hermann limited Lawrence to six hits and two runs over six innings to pick up the win. Derek Klegin went 4-for-5 and scored three runs for the Green Knights (13-10, 5-3).
St. Norbert led 3-0 after the first, but the Vikings chipped away at the lead. Lawrence got a run in the third when Brandon Klar singled and scored on Luke Zablocki’s sacrifice fly. The Vikings trimmed the lead to 3-2 in the fifth when Gordon doubled and scored on Zablocki’s double.
St. Norbert countered with two runs in the sixth and then added single runs in the seventh and eighth to seal the win.
Gordon and Jake Mills both went 2-for-4, and Zablocki was 2-for-3 and drove in both runs.
