APPLETON, Wis. — The Aurora University men’s soccer team scored early in each half and went on to a 2-0 nonconference victory over Lawrence University on Saturday night.
It was the debut of the Lawrence men’s soccer team in the renovated Ron Roberts Field at the Banta Bowl.
Jacob Goehring took the ball away from a Lawrence defender just outside the penalty box and beat keeper Joe Krivit in a one-on-one situtation to give Aurora a 1-0 lead just 4:38 into the match.
The score stayed that way until early in the second half. Xavier Ortiz took a free kick from just outside the box to the left of Krivit, and his bending shot went around the wall and into the net at the 53:13 mark for a 2-0 edge.
Zach McFarland had to make just one save to record the shutout for Aurora (1-1-0). Krivit made four saves for the Vikings (0-1-1).
