Vikings again stymied in MWC quarterfinals

MADISON, Wis. — All six Lawrence University singles players couldn’t advance past Sunday’s quarterfinals at the Midwest Conference Championships at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

The Vikings played without top singles player Katie Frankel so the rest of the team was forced to move up one flight.

Lilly Endsley played No. 1 and downed Carroll’s Megan Krzewinski 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 in the opening round. Endsley was then eliminated in the quarterfinals with a 6-4, 6-0 loss to eventual champion Billie Rodman of Lake Forest.

At No. 2, Lindsay Holsen dominated Ripon’s Courtney Olson 6-1, 6-0 in the opening round but then lost to St. Norbert’s Erika Chitko 6-0, 6-0 in the quarterfinals.

Elana Lambert downed Lisa Noggle of Illinois College 6-0, 6-2 in the opening round at No. 3. St. Norbert’s Katlyn Gahan then stopped Lambert 6-4, 6-3 in the quarterfinals.

Annie Harincar defeated Maddie Schacht of Knox 6-4, 6-3 in the opening round at No. 4. Harincar then fell 6-1, 6-0 to Lake Forest’s Allison Watts in the quarterfinals.

At No. 5, El Goblirsch was an easy 6-0, 6-1 winner over Beloit’s Nyasha Nyamhondoro in the first round. Alison Lambrecht of Carroll then downed Goblirsch 6-0, 6-2 in the quarters.

Cassandra Li jumped in at No. 6 for the Vikings and downed Carly Wesner of Ripon 6-0, 6-0 in the opening round. Catherine Schaupp then defeated Li in the quarterfinals.
