APPLETON, Wis. — Lawrence University’s Lewis Berger has been named the Midwest Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
Berger (Belchertown, Mass./Belchertown), a sophomore defender, won the honor after Lawrence’s 1-0 victory over Monmouth College on Oct. 31.
Berger was a key player among the group of defenders that allowed Monmouth just three shots on goal. He also scored the game’s only goal.
In the 27th minute, Berger hammered home a ball into the back of the net that deflected off the hand of the goalkeeper. It was Berger’s first goal of the season, and the fifth shutout for the Vikings in 2015.
This is the first Player of the Week award for Berger, and the first Defensive Player of the the Week award for Lawrence since Charlie Mann won the honor on Oct. 17, 2011.
