Cardinal takes three titles at Private College Championships

KENOSHA, Wis. — Lawrence University took home six individual titles, including three by Hayley Cardinal, at Saturday’s Wisconsin Private College Championships at Carthage College.

Cardinal took the crown in the 100-yard breaststroke, 200 breaststroke and 200 individual medley. She won the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.50 and took the 200 breaststroke in 2:31.45. She won the 200 IM in 2:19.05.

Paige Witter grabbed the title in the 500 freestyle for the Vikings in 5:24.17. Witter also took fourth in the 200 butterfly (2:20.01) and was sixth in the 100 butterfly (1:04.28).

Lawrence’s Emei Thompson took the top spot in the 200 freestyle in 2:02.89 and swam to third in the 500 freestyle in 5:31.71.

Danielle Millin took the other title for the Vikings with a first place in the 400 individual medley in 5:01.24. Millin also took sixth in the 100 backstroke in 1:05.81.

The Vikings also got a trio of top-three finishes in the relays. The 200 medley relay team of Cardinal, Witter, Lizzy Garcia and Emily Flack was second in 1:55.58. The 200 freestyle relay team of Millin, Thompson, Flack and Eryn Blagg took third in 1:46.74. The 400 freestyle relay team of Garcia, Emmi Zheng, Shelby Hader and Sarah Schweickart was third in 3:58.00.

The Lawrence women finished third with 152 points, and Carroll University took the team title with 268.5.

On the men’s side, Max Stahl led the Vikings with a third-place finish in the 200 backstroke in 2:09.00. Stahl also seventh in the 200 IM in 2:14.47. The Vikings finished fifth in the team standings.
