Quick start leads Knox past Vikings

GALESBURG, Ill. — The Knox College women’s basketball team got off to a quick start in each half Saturday and rode that to an 86-62 Midwest Conference victory over Lawrence University.

Jamie Blue and Hailey Leinart scored 16 points apiece to pace Knox (10-7, 5-7 MWC).

Andrea Wilkinson posted a double-double with a team-high 14 points and game-high 10 rebounds for the Vikings (0-18, 0-13).

In what has become an all-too-familiar storyline for the Vikings, Lawrence fell behind by double digits early. Knox led by 10 points just six minutes into the game and had a 23-10 advantage after the first quarter.

The Vikings were down by 16 when they battled back in the second quarter. Lawrence got four points from Natalie Kramer and a 3-pointer from Nicole Cummins as part of 9-2 run that cut the lead to 30-21.

Knox then countered by outscoring the Vikings 9-3 over the final 1:42 of the second quarter to lead 41-26 at halftime. The Prairie Fire then put the game away as it went on a 21-6 run over the final 4:30 of the third quarter for a 71-41 lead.

Lawrence never got closer than the final margin of 24 points the rest of the way.
