APPLETON, Wis. — The Ripon College baseball team got a walk-off homer to win the opener Sunday against Lawrence University and then used a bevy of walks to take the nightcap of a Midwest Conference doubleheader.
Ripon posted a 12-9 win in 10 innings in the first game and won the second contest 10-5 at Francis Field.
In the opener, Lawrence (7-12, 1-3 MWC) trailed 9-5 before rallying for four runs in the ninth to tie it. The Vikings got a run-scoring double from Travis Weber, and Andrew Lauber followed with a three-run homer to tie it a 9-9.
Nick Schmitt then hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the 10th to win it for Ripon (6-17, 4-4).
Weber finished 4-for-5 with three runs scored and three runs batted in for the Vikings, and Lauber and Brandon Klar both went 3-for-5. The Vikings out-hit Ripon 14-11 in the opener.
Brian Wilson worked the final 1.2 innings to get the win for Ripon, and Dan Rothbauer took the loss.
In the nightcap, Lawrence pitchers issued 14 walks and five of those runners came around to score.
Ripon jumped out to an 8-2 lead, and Lawrence never got closer than five runs the rest of the way.
Brice Swick started and went five innings to get the win. Cullen Ellis lasted only two innings and took the loss.
Rothbauer went 2-for-5 and drove in three runs to pace Lawrence, and Klar, Matt Holliday, Nolan Spencer, Cole Erickson and Carl Olsen all had two hits.
Lawrence out-hit the Red Hawks 14-10 in the second game.
