ST. PETER, Minn. — The Lawrence University women’s tennis team brought four players to Gustavus Adolphus College over the weekend and the Vikings scored some wins at the ITA Midwest Regional and Gustie Fall Invitational.
In the ITA Midwest Regional, top singles players Katie Frankel and Lindsay Holsen took part.
Frankel defeated Jessie O’Brien of the University of St. Thomas 6-2, 6-2 before falling to Ally Baker of Gustavus Adolphus 6-1, 6-1 in the round of 16. Holsen received a bye into the round of 16 and was stopped by UW-Stevens Point’s Katelyn Asfeld 6-2, 6-1. In the consolation bracket, Holsen defeated Maddy Scanlon of the College of St. Scholastica 8-6 and topped Lilly Denison of Hamline 8-3. Her run was finally stopped with an 8-1 loss to Elizabeth Manlick of St. Norbert College.
In the regional doubles tournament, Frankel and Holsen topped Edgewood College’s Sydney Verbauwhede and Marissa Wilson 8-2 in the round of 16. Car Carlson and Briana Hartmann of Gustavus then topped the Vikings 8-0 in the quarterfinals.
Annie Harincar and Elana Lambert took part in the Gustie Fall Invitational and both picked up wins.
Lambert won the opening match in her bracket by topping Laura Moyneur of Gustavus 8-6. She then topped Risako Oya of St. Scholastica 7-5, 6-3 in the quarterfinals. Maura Anderson of UW-La Crosse defeated Lambert 6-0, 6-0 in the bracket semifinals.
Harincar lost her opening match 8-6 to Luther College’s Kelsey Kruse to move to the consolation bracket. Harincar defeated Tiffany Waller of the University of Northwestern-St. Paul 8-4 before being eliminated with a 9-7 loss to Maddy Knoll of St. Catherine University.
In the doubles competition, Harincar and Lambert received a bye into the bracket’s round of 16 but fell 8-4 to Megan Pope and Gabby Ferro of Cornell College.
