Foresters overcome early deficit and pull away from Vikings

APPLETON, Wis. — The Lake Forest College women’s soccer team overcame an early deficit Saturday and pulled away for a 5-2 Midwest Conference victory over Lawrence University on Ron Roberts Field at the Banta Bowl.

Greta Fritz scored her first career goal in the eighth minute to give the Vikings (1-8-0, 0-3-0 MWC) an early 1-0 lead.

Lake Forest (6-4-1, 2-1-1) evened the score on Kyle Chavarria’s goal at 32:50 and then took the lead on Lindsay Hartup’s goal three minutes later.

The Vikings battled back to tie it at 2-2 on Ryan Berkley’s goal at 40:22 with Fritz picking up the assist.

Lake Forest took the lead for good at 3-2 on Mimi Vaintrub’s goal with just 1:25 left in the first half. The Foresters then clamped down on defense and allowed Lawrence just one shot in the second half.

Emma Byrne and Vaintrub both scored in the second half to seal the win for the Foresters.

Rachel Tenuta made four saves in the first half to get the win for Lake Forest. Kori Looker stopped 15 shots for the Vikings.
