SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The Lawrence University fencing teams combined for four wins at the Northwestern Duals this weekend at the University of Notre Dame.
The Lawrence men posted a 3-3 record, and the women finished 1-6.
On the men’s side, the Vikings defeated Incarnate Word and Caltech by the same score of 19-8 and topped Northwestern 18-9. UC-San Diego beat the Vikings 22-5, Penn State stopped the Vikings 22-5 and Princeton defeated Lawrence 20-7.
Sabre was key in Lawrence’s win over Incarnate Word as the Vikings won those bouts 9-0. Sabre took the bouts vs. Caltech 7-2, and foil dominated Northwestern 8-1.
On the women’s side, Lawrence’s only win was a 22-5 victory over Caltech. Again, it was sabre winning the bouts 9-0.
In the other matches UC-San Diego, Farleigh Dickinson and Incarnate Word all beat the Vikings by the same score of 16-11. Temple beat Lawrence 24-3, Penn State topped the Vikings 23-4 and Princeton shut out the Vikings 27-0.
