CLERMONT, Fla. — Kayli Paugh fired a two-hit shutout Friday to lead the Hood College softball team to a 2-0 victory over Lawrence University in the season opener for the Vikings.
Paugh struck out eight and walked two while allowing a single in the second inning and another single in the third. Paugh also went 2-for-3 and drove in both runs for Hood (8-3).
Hood scored a run in the first on Paugh’s RBI double, and added another run in the fourth on Paugh’s lead-off homer.
Madeline MacLean made the start for the Vikings and allowed only six hits. She struck out two and did not walk a batter.
The only hits for the Vikings came from Sofie Pedersen and Kori Looker.
