Lawrence University’s Curran Carlile has been named the Midwest Conference Men’s Cross Country Performer of the Week after a sterling start to his collegiate career.
Running in his first race, Carlile (Portland, Ore./Central Catholic) ran to victory at the St. Norbert College Tom Barry Invitational. Carlile covered the four-mile course at Colburn Park in 20 minutes, 50.1 seconds. Led by Carlile, the Vikings tied for the team title with 66 points.
Carlile is the first Lawrence men’s runner to win the conference performer of the week award since it was established in 2004. His race victory was the first by a Lawrence men’s runner since Eric Davis won the Northland Baptist Bible College Invitational in 2001. The team victory also was the first since the Northland Baptist meet in 2001.
The Vikings return to action on Sept. 18 when they compete at the UW-Whitewater Warhawk Invitational.
