APPLETON, Wis. — Lawrence University opens the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association playoffs when it travels to No. 1-ranked St. Norbert College for a quarterfinal series with the Green Knights. The games on Friday and Saturday both begin at 7 p.m. at the Cornerstone Community Center. It’s a two-game series with a mini-game, if necessary, following Saturday night’s contest.

Tickets on sale for NCHA quarterfinal series
APPLETON, Wis. — Tickets are now on sale for Lawrence University’s Northern Collegiate Hockey Association quarterfinal playoff series at St. Norbert College on Friday and Saturday.
The games at the Cornerstone Community Center begin at 7 p.m. both days.
The box office is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. To purchase tickets by phone, call 1-800-762-2699. You may also purchase tickets online at: https://tickets.snc.edu/s706. Online ticket sales stop at 4 p.m. on Friday and tickets will be on sale before each game beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Tickets prices are $6, $8 or $10.
St. Norbert enters the playoff series as the nation’s No. 1-ranked team, and the Green Knights are the NCHA’s regular season champion. Lawrence, which split its two games this season with St. Norbert, clinched a berth in the playoffs with a win over Finlandia University this past Saturday.
The winner of the series advances to the NCHA semifinals on Feb. 28.
Roubos’ hat trick leads Lawrence past Lions
APPLETON, Wis. — Blake Roubos’ hat trick led Lawrence University to a 4-2 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association victory over Finlandia University on Saturday at the Appleton Family Ice Center.
The win also clinched a berth in the NCHA playoffs for the Vikings (6-17-2, 5-12-1 NCHA). Lawrence will travel to No. 1-ranked St. Norbert College for a two-game quarterfinal series next Friday and Saturday.
Roubos, a freshman forward, picked up the first hat trick of his career and the first one for a Lawrence player since Marc Howe did it against Northland College on Nov. 21, 2009.
It was Huck Saunders who gave Lawrence the lead with his goal at 12:27 of the first off passes from Roubos and William Thoren.
Roubos made it 2-0 with a power-play goal 4:20 into the second period as Thoren and Steve Hughes collected assists. Roubos gave Lawrence a 3-0 edge when he scored just 2:21 into the third period.
The Lions (3-20-1, 2-16-0) then fought back with a pair of goals. Travis Armstrong scored at the 3:48 mark, and the Lions got a power-play goal from Ryan Daavettila at 9:17 to the cut the lead to 3-2.
Roubos then completed the hat trick with another power-play goal at the 10:51 mark. Thoren got his third assist of the night on that that goal, and Renato Engler picked up his second assist in the game.
Mattias Soderqvist made 26 saves to pick up his second win of the season for Lawrence. Andrew Brownlee was tagged with the loss after allowing the game’s first three goals. He made 21 saves.
Lions slip past Lawrence in overtime
APPLETON, Wis. — Shigenobu Kakudate scored 3:08 into overtime on Friday to lift the Finlandia University to a 4-3 victory over Lawrence University in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at the Appleton Family Ice Center.
The overtime goal spoiled a nice comback by the Vikings (5-17-2, 4-12-1 NCHA), who trailed by three goals late in the second period.
Kakudate scored the game-winner off assists from Travis Armstrong and Kevin Smith for his second goal of the night. He scored a short-hander in the second period that put Finlandia (3-19-1, 2-15-0) up 3-0.
Lawrence finally got on the board when Steve Hughes scored on the power play off passes from Huck Saunders and William Thoren with 2:39 left in the second period.
The Vikings then scored a pair of goals in a span of 46 seconds in the third period to tie it. After a tripping penalty put the Vikings on the power play, Renato Engler scored for Lawrence with assists from Blake Roubos and Saunders at the 7:19 mark.
Logan Lemirande then tied it at 8:05 with an even-strength goal with Engler and Hughes picking up assists.
Andrew Brownlee stopped 49 shots to pick up the win for Finlandia. Mattias Soderqvist made 24 saves for Lawrence, which had a 52-28 edge in shots.
The teams wrap up the series and the regular season on Saturday afternoon.

Adrian rallies for a 5-3 win over Lawrence
ADRIAN, Mich. — Second-ranked Adrian College rallied from three goals down to post a 5-3 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association victory over Lawrence University on Saturday at Arrington Ice Arena.
Adrian (18-1-4, 12-1-3 NCHA) tied it early in the third period and then scored the game-winner with less than four minutes left.
Lawrence (5-16-2, 4-11-1) used power-play opportnities to jump on top in the first period. Ryan Rumble scored a pair of power-play goals just 1:13 apart to give Lawrence a 2-0 edge.
Brett Sauve got a five-minute major for boarding and a game misconduct to put the Vikings on the power play. Rumble then scored off passes from Paul Zuke and Gustav Lindgren at the 9:16 mark. Rumble scored again at 10:29 with Zuke and Lindgren again picking up assists.
Lawrence made it 3-0 when Zuke scored unassisted at 14:44 of the first.
Adrian sliced the lead to 3-2 when Josh Cousineau just 30 seconds into the second period and Josh Ranalli added another goal at 15:43.
The Bulldogs struck again, this time just 1:07 into the third, when Ryan Lowe scored to tie it at 3-3. Duston Hebebrand then gave Adrian a 4-3 lead with a power-play goal at 16:10. Hebebrand added an empty-netter with 13 seconds left to finish the scoring.
Mattias Soderqvist made 29 saves for the Vikings, and Scott Shackell made 20 saves for Adrian.
Lawrence picks up tie with second-ranked Adrian
ADRIAN, Mich. — Lawrence University skated to a 2-2 overtime tie with second-ranked Adrian College in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game on Friday at Arrington Arena.
Lawrence (5-15-2, 4-10-1 NCHA) built a 2-0 lead on a pair of power-play goals, but Adrian (17-1-4, 11-1-3) scored two goals in the final 2:51 of regulation to force the overtime.
After a scoreless opening period, the Vikings took advantage of a power-play opportunity. After Adrian’s Justin Basso was whistled for hooking at 3:43, Saunders scored on the man-advantage at the 4:26 mark for a 1-0 lead.
Lawrence, which has tied Adrian in three consecutive games, then picked up another power-play goal later in the second period. After Brett Pinkerton was called for tripping, William Thoren cashed in for the Vikings with a goal at the 13:13 mark to put Lawrence up 2-0.
Lawrence finished 2-for-4 on the power play, and the Bulldogs went 0-for-5. Adrian entered the game ranked sixth in the nation on the power play at 26.7 percent.
Adrian finally got on the board with just 2:51 remaining in the third period when Dustin Hebebrand scored an even-strength goal. The Bulldogs then tied it when Hebebrand scored again with just 1:38 left.
Lawrence got a final power-play chance when Basso was whistled for cross-checking with 1:01 left in regulation. The power play carried over to the overtime, but Lawrence was unable to cash in.
The Vikings had just one shot on goal in the five-minute overtime, and Adrian had the better chances in the extra period. The Bulldogs had four shots on goal and Josh Cousineau had a shot ring off the pipe.
Lawrence goaltender Mattias Soderqvist stopped 40 shots for the Vikings. James Hamby made 20 saves for Adrian.
The teams wrap up the series on Saturday afternoon.

Lawrence falls to Foresters in overtime
LAKE FOREST, Ill. — Bobby Barrett scored 53 seconds into overtime to lift Lake Forest College to a 3-2 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association victory over Lawrence University on Saturday.
Barrett’s goal came off assists from Mcauley Banning and Mike Violette and capped a sweep of the weekend series for the Foresters (12-8-1, 9-5-0 NCHA).
Lawrence (5-15-1, 4-10-0) had built a 2-1 lead in the second period, but the Vikings couldn’t hang on. Senior forward Huck Saunders scored both goals for the Vikings.
Saunders scored just 28 seconds into the game to give Lawrence a 1-0 advantage. Banning tied it for Lake Forest midway through the first period, but Saunders gave Lawrence a 2-1 lead with a power-play goal with 4:29 left in the second period.
Banning then scored 4:09 into the third period to tie it at 2-2.
Leo Podolsky made 20 saves to get the win for Lake Forest. Mattias Soderqvist stopped 39 shots and took the loss for Lawrence.
Foresters use big second period to roll past Lawrence
APPLETON, Wis. — Lake Forest College scored six times in the second period and went on to a 7-0 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association victory over Lawrence University Friday at the Appleton Family Ice Center.
Luke Swardenski scored a pair of goals, and Mike Violette had a goal and three assists to pace the Foresters (11-8-1, 8-5-0 NCHA).
Leo Podolsky stopped 31 shots to pick up the shutout for Lake Forest. Mattias Soderqvist played the first 30 minutes and took the loss for Lawrence (5-14-1, 4-9-0).
After a scoreless first period, the Foresters took advantage of some power-play chances and raced away to a big lead. Jack Lewis and Swardenski both scored on the power play in the first 4:38 of the second period to put the Foresters up 2-0.
Violette scored at the 6:07 mark, and Andrew Stein added a power-play goal at 9:16 to make it 4-0. Lake Forest added two more goals in the next 4:35 to build a 6-0 edge.
The Foresters fired 23 shots on net in the second period and had a 51-31 edge in shots for the game.
The teams finish the weekend series Saturday night at Lake Forest.
